Sun Offers Special Promotions on Its Record Performing Systems

Posted on: Wednesday, 1 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced two new promotions, one of which benefits Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs), including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers (MCSEs). Sun is pumping up the volume for channel partners by providing MCPs with cost-effective access to Sun's record setting line of workstations and servers with AMD Opteron(TM) processors. Over the next three months, Sun is offering up to a 35 percent discount off of regular U.S. list prices on select models of workstations and servers that are designed to run Microsoft Windows OS. In addition, MCSEs and other MCPs may take advantage of a 50 percent discount offer on the innovative, Sun Java(TM) Creator IDE tool certified for Windows OS (1). Sun is offering a second promotion for all customers with up to a 25 percent discount of the total price on select models for multiple-unit purchases of the Sun Fire(TM) V40z 4-way Solaris server, which also runs Red Hat Linux or SUSE Linux or Windows operating systems with Microsoft Hardware Compatibility (HCL) certifications. To access today's promotions, please visit: http://www.sun.com/MCSE and http://www.sun.com/v40z/promotions.

The new promotions from Sun are available immediately and will end on November 30, 2004 or upon further notice. Additional details on the promotions include:

MCPs Can Save up to 35 Percent For Sun Systems with AMD Opteron Processors

Sun is offering promotions on Sun workstations and servers with AMD Opteron processors in order to help MCSEs and other MCPs who work in a Microsoft Windows environment develop, manage systems and support the Windows OS and software. The Sun systems offer a number of key benefits that are new to these professionals, including 32-bit software investment protection and a migration path to 64-bit Windows; return on hardware investment with linear CPU scalability; world-record performance and stronger protection against Internet attacks with the AMD Opteron processor's Enhanced Virus Protection for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). This new enhancement is built into Windows XP SP2 to help systems better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses and increase network and memory application.

The training and experience MCSEs and other MCPs have can help them optimize the use of Sun systems when running Windows XP and Windows 2000 Server operating systems. Although Sun certifies and provides support for the system hardware only, MCSEs and MCP channel partners now have the unique opportunity to offer sales and support for the Windows OS and software on Sun's high-performance systems.

These promotions are available via direct sales, by accessing the Sun Store at http://store.sun.com/ and through Sun's channel partners including GE Access and Insight.

"Sun has really hit a home run with the new AMD Opteron processor-based workstations and servers," said Gary Woods, vice president product management, Insight. "Our SMB customers are continually looking for a powerful solution that not only fits within the constraints of their IT budget, but also delivers critical performance. Sun's new product line based on AMD Opteron processors and promotional offer coupled with Insights software certifications provides just that."

MCPs Can Save up to 50 Percent For Sun Java Creator IDE

Because many customers running the Windows OS deploy Java technology to run their applications, Sun is offering MCSEs and MCPs up to a 50 percent discount on price for the U.S. list price for the Sun Java Creator IDE tool for Java software development. To access this offer and obtain more information, visit the Sun Store at: http://store.sun.com/.

"We are offering valuable discounts to more than 1.5 million MCSEs and MCPs to help enable them to receive the best service and support our partners can provide for Windows running Sun's AMD Opteron processor-based systems," said John Fowler, executive vice president of the Network Systems Group at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "In addition, Sun's 32- and 64-bit ready capabilities can allow customers to protect existing IT investments and prepare for 64-bit applications and software without major disruption to their business, regardless of the OS they are running."

MCP promotions are available to professionals who hold the following credentials: Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCT), Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Database Administrators (MCDBA), Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
