Fine Point Networks to Lead Industry in Broadband PPPoE Management

Posted on: Wednesday, 1 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its brand equity as a leader in broadband and dial-up provisioning solutions, Fine Point Technologies today announced the launch of Fine Point Networks(TM), a new division established to address the core network functionality and deployment needs of broadband service providers. Fine Point Networks brings this capability to market with ServPoET(R), the Company's solution for the management of PPPoE within the broadband network, along with WinPoET(TM) and MacPoET(TM), the industry-standard PPPoE subscriber clients.

Responding to the deployment needs of the broadband industry, Fine Point Technologies has launched Fine Point Networks to more strongly define and position the Company's PPPoE management solutions in the broadband marketplace.

"We felt that it was really time to shift our business structure to tap the full potential of our brand," commented John O'Keefe, CEO of Fine Point Technologies. "By focusing on the core network needs of broadband providers, Fine Point Networks allows us to streamline our business model and present our customers with the solutions that they need."

Currently, Fine Point Networks' offerings include the industry leading PPPoE clients WinPoET (for Microsoft(R) Windows(R)) and MacPoET (for Macintosh(R)), and the ServPoET Broadband Management Server (BMS). ServPoET provides the most cost-effective solution for terminating PPPoE sessions for any type of broadband service, and is completely compatible with Cisco and Redback routers.

Bob Carrick, Broadband Product Manager for Fine Point Networks stated, "PPPoE, which helps broadband providers to efficiently provision and authenticate users, has become a widely adopted standard due to its numerous advantages such as brand management, revenue generating options and decreased call center support."

Frank J. Bernhard, managing principal and technology economist with OMNI Consulting Group LLP, remarked, "One challenge that PPPoE presents is the workload on router termination, which is why a product like ServPoET is set to really improve the market landscape with respect to CAPEX conservation."

This announcement directly follows the launch of a new Fine Point Technologies website, including a specific site dedicated to the Fine Point Networks division. Re-designed with the goal of more clearly presenting the Company's networking, acquisition and management solutions, the new website significantly steps away from, and raises the bar for, competing companies.
