TRADE NEWS: Agilent Introduces Industry-First Integrated Radio-Network Analysis Tool for 3G Wireless Networks
Posted on: Monday, 12 February 2007, 03:03 CST
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced the industry's first integrated test solution that -- in a single protocol analysis tool -- seamlessly combines mobile device data captured from an RF interface and from a mobile terrestrial network.
Troubleshooting and optimizing today's 3G networks requires a broad understanding of network performance over multiple interfaces. Rapid growth in the number of subscribers and in data-network usage has challenged the 3G radio access network in both RF capacity and data throughput performance; measuring across the last hop from base station to mobile device is essential for troubleshooting and optimization; and without visibility to the air interface, network operators must manually correlate data from independent drive test and protocol analysis tools.
Importing Agilent's E6474A Drive Test data through the Agilent J7839A Signaling Analyzer has revolutionized and simplified end-to-end troubleshooting. It is now possible to leverage the high-performance signaling analyzer platform by analyzing information from the radio interface with network protocol traces. The analyzer is available for both UMTS and cdma2000 technologies, providing data import, automatic correlation call trace and sequence diagram representations. The new Agilent solution allows users to correlate signaling procedures from the air interface and radio access network interfaces in a single view to detect and troubleshoot problems from the mobile phone to the network, leading to true end-to-end visibility.
The benefits of seamless integration of drive test and protocol analysis include:
Automatic correlation of data collected from both the radio and network interfaces to find end-to-end performance issues more easily;
Mobile-device and network-combined protocol decoding as well as call trace groupings to enable a complete understanding of mobile access network behaviors;
Detection of lost and delayed messages from the air interface and RAN network with time stamped messages;
Isolation of base stations with RF performance, capacity and interference problems to perform root cause analysis; and
Evaluation of overall RF performance from NodeB quality estimate table (UMTS).
"Traditional RF and network-based tools have their parts to play in this complex environment, but getting the best out of discrete tools can be a labor-intensive and complex process," said Chris Witt, general manager of Agilent's Next Generation Wireless Division. "The Signaling Analyzer Test Drive solution has made it possible for Agilent to simplify the process of extracting meaningful information from the vast amount of data that lies in the network."
