Charlotte's Popular City Tavern Chain Gains Exposure and Fuels Expansion With Rewards Network

Posted on: Tuesday, 13 February 2007, 09:00 CST

Charlotte, North Carolina restaurant favorite City Tavern will open its sixth location this month, largely due to its relationship with Rewards Network, a leading provider of marketing services and loyalty programs to the restaurant industry. The newest location for the City Tavern chain is situated in the RiverGate plaza of Lake Wylie. "We've got a great group of regulars, and it's always nice to see new faces and visitors enjoy all that City Tavern has to offer," said owner John Weinbrenner. "The most obvious reason I work with Rewards Network is the exposure I get to these active diners who care enough about restaurants to join a dining program--it's common sense for my business."

"You'll find us in all the hottest areas of Charlotte, and we've also recently expanded to the Mayfair Town Center in Wilmington," said Weinbrenner. "It's a trendy atmosphere and we find our customers keep coming back for our mix of chef-driven 'crave items' and comfort food entrees." The restaurant offers diners a number of crowd favorites, including 21-day aged hand carved steaks, like the Gorgonzola New York Strip as well as the long-time best selling Asian Sea Bass. The bar at City Tavern has its own unique draw, featuring a selection of over 40 specialty martinis and over 40 wines.

The restaurant, recently featured in US Airways Magazine, is also a frequent recipient of Charlotte-area awards including Best of Show at Taste of Charlotte in 2005 and 2006, Best Martini by Charlotte Observer, Best Looking Bar by Charlotte's Best Magazine, and one of the 25 Top Restaurants Under $25 by Charlotte Magazine. City Tavern is also dedicated to giving back to its local communities, supporting multiple charitable events each month, and for more than five years City Tavern has offered college savings contributions to Upromise members by participating in the Upromise Dining by Rewards Network program.

"We've been with Rewards Network for six years and will continue with the program, because simply, it works," said Weinbrenner. "As a new restaurant, access to capital was the type of support we needed to jump-start our success, and beyond that Rewards Network has helped our effort to continue attracting new customers and retain the ones we've got."

As part of the Rewards Network program, City Tavern is marketed through Web pages on the Rewards Network site and inclusion in printed mailings and targeted emails to Rewards Network members. In addition, the restaurant receives detailed customer intelligence and marketing reports, including member ratings and feedback, to help Weinbrenner gain a better understanding of his diners. "The customer trend reports we receive from Rewards Network give us a clear picture into our customers. We can read their comments, view their spending by the area they're from, and track activity of new and repeat customers. This is vital to understanding my business and enabling its success," said Weinbrenner.

"With its ambiance, menu options and marquee locations, City Tavern has really distinguished itself in and beyond the Charlotte scene," said Ron Blake, Rewards Network President and CEO. "I encourage all our members who live in the Charlotte or Wilmington areas and those traveling there to take advantage of this great restaurant in the Rewards Network program."
