JAL to Cut Fuel Surcharges for Int’L Flights From April
Tokyo, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)–Japan Airlines said Tuesday it has applied to the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry for approval to lower fuel surcharges for international flights.
The decision to cut the add-on charges, which partly reflects the recent stability in fuel prices, comes as Japan Airlines is set to raise international air fares in April this year.
All Nippon Airways is also expected to submit a similar plan soon.
According to JAL’s plan, fuel surcharges will be reduced by 100 yen for one-way flights from Japan to South Korea, by 200 yen for flights to China and Hawaii, and 1,000 yen for those to North America and Europe.
The reductions will be applied to tickets issued on April 1 and later.
Meanwhile, JAL applied for a fuel surcharge hike for flights to Hong Kong, from 1,800 yen to 5,200 yen.
The company said the fuel surcharge revisions are expected to lower its revenue by about 5 billion yen.END
