Openwave and Telefonica Moviles Espana Trial a Converged Communications Experience
BARCELONA, Spain, 3GSM World Congress, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Openwave Systems , the leading provider of software products and services for the communications industry, today announced plans to trial a new generation of converged communications services with Telefonica Moviles Espana. The trial will complement existing deployments of Openwave messaging products with the Openwave(R) Converged Communications Solution (CCS). CCS leverages Openwave’s core messaging platform and client software products to provide Telefonica a broader suite of converged messaging and communications services.
The Openwave CCS trial will help Telefonica enhance the user interface and enable new communication services for mobile, fixed line and Internet users — both through mobile phones and desktop PCs — creating value and a new converged experience for Telefonica end users, ultimately driving more usage and revenues from messaging and communication services.
“The converged communications trial with Telefonica is the next step in the collaboration between our two companies, and illustrates our strong commitment and leadership in delivering advanced messaging services,” said David Peterschmidt, president and CEO, Openwave. “Openwave CCS meets a long-awaited industry need for intelligent, integrated consumer messaging services designed for mass market phones while enabling seamless access to messaging and communities across both the mobile handset and PC.”
Openwave CCS is the industry’s first IMS-ready, handset-to-network solution combining SMS, MMS and IP messaging into a single, intuitive and personalized experience. Openwave CCS breaks traditional voice and messaging silos to create an integrated user experience that is simpler than the fragmented and often complex consumer experiences of today.
On the client side, Openwave CCS incorporates an AJAX-based solution which enables new mobile and converged services on a reduced timescale, with customized user interfaces on both mobile phones and PCs alike. Interoperability with existing handsets enables a complete converged messaging experience across the full subscriber base.
The converged communications solution also introduces new service capabilities, including conversational threads to make communication more intuitive, a network-based presence-enabled address book and integrated content to promote increased usage across the entire mobile and converged experience. Openwave’s CCS offering is also designed to enable new operator revenue opportunities by incorporating mobile advertising and promotional inserts into the core solutions design.
In addition to Openwave CCS, the complete portfolio of Openwave Adaptive Communications products and services includes mobile messaging, voice, video, real-time call control, and integrated PC-based applications, supported by an industry leading adaptive communications platform. Earlier this year, Openwave received the Frost & Sullivan 2006 Product Line Strategy Award for its messaging offerings.
