Ample Communications and RMI Enable System Vendors to Implement High-Density Ethernet Aggregation Solutions
Posted on: Thursday, 15 February 2007, 09:00 CST
Ample Communications, a leading provider of communications silicon for wire line network systems, today announced the availability of a proven Ethernet aggregation solution comprised of Ample's Multiport Ethernet MACs and Raza Microelectronics® Inc.'s XLR Processor™. This interoperable solution enables system vendors to implement highly dense 10/100/1000 Ethernet or 10GE aggregation solutions in Internet services applications, significantly saving cost, power and board space by up to 50 percent.
Together, Ample and Raza Microelectronics, Inc. (RMI) provide vendors with the necessary tools for building a cost-effective, yet innovative next-generation system. Ample's product portfolio of Ethernet aggregation solutions range from 10/100/1000 Ethernet to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. This broad range enables networking OEMs and ODMs to build multiple versions of platforms with new line interfaces, simply by replacing Ethernet interface cards. RMI's XLR Processor eliminates the need for microcoding or proprietary programming models, and its industry-standard media interfaces provide an extensive set of connectivity options.
"Our close relationship extends XLR's capability and we look forward to continuing this relationship in the future," said Lance Smith, vice president and general manager, Scalable Processor Solutions at RMI. "Our combined efforts offer a more flexible, less costly, and faster time to market solution for enterprise product development. This is critical in an industry thriving on developing cutting-edge aggregation solutions while minimizing resources, and dramatically reducing valuable development time."
"Our customers benefit from knowing that Ample's Ethernet MACs are proven to work with RMI's XLR Processor, which makes platform design easier and more efficient," said Mat Steinberg, VP of business development for Ample Communications. "We offer the broadest line of proven interoperable solutions in the industry, and we will continue to help customers reduce design cycles in order to successfully deliver Internet service solutions."
