ACT Pipe and Supply Installs Time Warner Telecom's IP VPN and Ethernet for Improved, Reliable Multi-Site Connectivity

HOUSTON, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom Inc., , a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the successful installation of a 14-site IP VPN network and Ethernet Internet services for ACT Pipe and Supply of Houston, the largest independently-owned waterworks and fire protection distributor in Texas.
"Our previous communications network would go down monthly, sometimes for days at a time," said Charles Paup, vice president of finance, IT and risk management at ACT Pipe and Supply. "The situation was intolerable because it was negatively impacting sales. The reliability we get from Time Warner Telecom put an end to that and now we're focusing on improving customer satisfaction and boosting sales."
The company's new network allows managers to link multiple office locations through a Time Warner Telecom MPLS-based 14-node IP VPN. The service has proven so beneficial that the company upgraded its Houston office from a 10 Mbps to a 100 Mbps connection. "The added bandwidth and reliability has significantly improved our employees' productivity," added Paup. "The more efficient network we have now allows us to process customers more quickly.
Suffering from the poor performance and service of their previous vendor, company managers scrutinized Time Warner Telecom's capabilities and performance metrics before awarding the contract. "We interviewed a number of people and references and based on what we learned felt pretty comfortable moving forward with them," explained Paup. "Given their excellent performance to date, they've certainly proven themselves worthy of that confidence."
In addition to IP VPN services, the firm contracted Ethernet Internet services for use company-wide. ACT Pipe and Supply also relocated key servers and infrastructure to a Time Warner Telecom collocation facility to ensure business continuity. "We wanted to have our equipment at a hardened facility that would allow us to continue to serve our customers in the event of a hurricane or flood," said Paup.
