The Big Tease. Britney’s Hair Goes on eBay, Then It’s Pulled
By Steve Stone, The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, Va.
Feb. 19–You knew it had to happen. Britney’s hair.
On eBay, ever so briefly.
Bad enough that the paparazzi were all over Britney Spears’ decision to baldly go where few women go. An online auction opened Saturday for what purported to be Spears’ sheared tresses. The eBay listing, complete with photographic evidence, went up at 8:24 p.m. with a starting bid of $1 million.
“I am selling the hair as well as the ¾ full can of Red Bull she was drinking and her blue Bic lighter,” wrote the seller, listed as “cornorstore.” He (or she) claimed to represent Esther Tognozzi, owner of the salon that Spears entered Friday night, apparently in search of a new look.
By 5 p.m. Sunday, the price was up to $1,001,000.
By 6:30, eBay had removed the auction “pending verification.”
Presumably, the auction site doesn’t want anyone to be clipped.
