Lucent's Integrated Solution Has Been Selected to Enable Defense Information Systems Agency to Ensure Service Quality and Reduce Costs
Houston Associates, a world-class provider of telecommunications, systems engineering, and management services to government, and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced a teaming partnership to support the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Network Operations Common Operating Picture (NETCOP) project objectives aimed at providing a real-time correlated situational awareness picture of networks, applications, systems and information assurance status.
"Houston Associates conducted a rigorous selection process to determine the most efficient and cost-effective way to streamline the management of DISA's complex and unique global network operations," said Lt. General Alonzo Short, U.S. Army (ret.) and president and COO of Houston Associates. "Lucent clearly demonstrated that it has a robust correlation engine and easy rules creation, which translate into technical and cost benefits to meet DISA's goals of deploying mission-critical communications in field operations."
"Being selected by Houston Associates in support of the DISA's NETCOP project underscores Lucent's commitment to the federal government's drive toward network-centric solutions," said Liz King, Lucent's vice president for strategic alliances and new business development. "With its massive scalability, flexible user customization features and ease of integration, we are confident Houston and DISA will find our Integrated Service Assurance (ISA) solution to be an extremely valuable network management tool for one of the world's most sophisticated and demanding networks."
Lucent is providing its Integrated Service Assurance (ISA) Operations Support System (OSS) software, introduced in November 2003, as well as professional services, including installation, testing, software integration, consulting services and related training.
By consolidating enterprise fault and performance information, Lucent's ISA software can help DISA NetOps personnel detect and identify the root cause of enterprise problems, correlate them with trouble tickets, and identify affected customers, services, and applications. As a result, DISA can ensure enterprise services continue to operate at required levels of service quality. With the Lucent solution, DISA can provide NetOps Situational Awareness management and monitoring capabilities of disparate network operations security centers (NOSCs) and network operations centers (NOCs) around the world, ensuring uniformity and optimal service quality across the DoD's information infrastructure. Preparations for deployment of Lucent's ISA OSS solution in the DISA enterprise is expected to begin later this fall following a thorough prototype phase conducted by the Houston Associates Team and DISA.
