BROOMFIELD, Colo., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Level 3 Communications, Inc., today announced it has signed a multi-year agreement to provide additional nationwide network services for Adelphia Communications Corporation , the fifth-largest cable television company in the country.
Under the expanded service offering, Adelphia will use multiple wavelength circuits to transport data and voice traffic to and from major cities throughout the United States. Adelphia serves customers in 30 states and Puerto Rico, and offers analog and digital video services, high-speed Internet access and other advanced services over its broadband networks.
"Level 3 has been providing Adelphia with wavelength and other services for almost three years, and has consistently proved to be a stable and reliable partner," said Marwan Fawaz, CTO and senior vice president of Engineering and Technology for Adelphia. "Moreover, Level 3 offers effective design collaboration and technical expertise, which is why the company continues to be our first choice to provide our underlying backbone."
"Level 3's (3)Link(R) Intercity Wavelength service has a proven track record with the most sophisticated and demanding customers in the world," said Randy Dunbar, senior vice president of Transport Services for Level 3. "We look forward to providing Adelphia with a scalable wavelength-based backbone that gives the cable operator the flexibility, control and cost efficiencies that the company requires. Cable MSOs need these network capabilities to help support the growth of their broadband Internet and HDTV services."
"Level 3 takes our own unique network assets into consideration to help us understand and evaluate our networking options," said Tom Buttermore, Adelphia's vice-president of Data Engineering and Operations. "This collaborative network planning approach helps ensure that we're designing and augmenting our network cost-effectively."
The (3)Link Intercity Wavelength offering is an optical, point-to-point, unprotected service at 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps. (3)Link Intercity Wavelength service is available in 71 markets in the United States and in Europe.
"We've seen a consistent trend among our current customers on both continents where they continually turn to Level 3 as they evolve and expand their networks," added Dunbar.
