Network Equipment Technologies Announces New Customer Win and Initial Order for Its Multi-Service, High-Speed Switching Platform

Posted on: Thursday, 22 February 2007, 09:00 CST

Telecommunications equipment maker Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:NWK), a global provider of multi-service network exchange solutions for government and enterprise customers, announced a new customer for its NX5010 platform within the U.S. Federal Government market. The new customer is an agency in the Department of Defense (DoD).

Released for general availability at the end of November 2006, the NX5010 is a next generation, high speed multi-service aggregation and switching platform. This initial order for 10 units will be used to provide continuous transport of time-sensitive secure applications at line-rate OC-192 speeds between disparate network locations.

"The early customer interest and traction we are achieving with this product is encouraging. This new order, in addition to the one we recently received from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) following their trials of the platform, indicates the promise of this new product for NET as customers begin to realize the potential of this powerful solution for mission-critical communications," said John Sandschulte, Vice President Engineering and GM of the Broadband Technology Group. "The high-speed nature and small form factor of the NX5010 has made it an ideal solution for government agencies in need of sending large amounts of data over secure networks."

Jointly developed by NET and Bay Microsystems, the leader in high performance packet processing solutions, the NX5010 is compact and scalable, with the ability to forward data, Infiniband, cell, or packet, at 10 gigabits per second over a wide area connection in a very small a foot print (2RU).
