Research and Markets: Nokia Should Emphasise Its Capability to Take a Mobile 'End-To-End' View in Its Services Business, Which Is Much Better Placed to Do Than Many of Its Competitors

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c51056) has announced the addition of Nokia in Telco Services to their offering.
Like other network equipment providers (NEPs), Nokia has grasped the reality that network equipment and devices are commodities, and that it needs to differentiate itself through adding value to its core equipment offerings, to sustain revenues in the future. Services offer an opportunity to do this, and Nokia's large customer base has given the company a good place from which to grow. In the past 18--24 months, Nokia has invested in the professional services business as well as making significant cultural changes internally to focus on the business benefits of the solutions it can offer and not the technology per se. The results are clear in the revenue growth it has been able to achieve in Services, and should be a springboard for further growth.
However, in the author's opinion, Nokia needs to be bolder if it is to grow the business to become a truly multivendor which spans the network and IT infrastructure. All NEPs suffer from the problem that their customers continue to see them primarily as network experts. The NEPs don't want to break this link but to extend it -- saying "we can do more than this." But what is this 'more'? It's hard to say with Nokia, which seems to be proceeding cautiously. In the author's opinion, Nokia should emphasise its capability to take a mobile 'end-to-end' view in its Services business, which it is much better placed to do than many of its competitors.
