Pa. Teacher Hospitalized After iPod Attack
A 60-year-old Philadelphia teacher was hospitalized after two of his Germantown High School students attacked him for seizing one of their iPods.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon at the high school when Frank Burd found himself being assaulted by a 17-year-old and 15-year-old student for taking away the former’s iPod digital music players, the Philadelphia Daily News said.
The Pennsylvania school district’s chief executive, Paul G. Vallas, said the popular teacher received a gash to his head and two broken bones in his neck during the attack.
This is a really heinous act, he said. It was very deliberate. It was premeditated … We have it on tape.
The attack marked the most recent disciplinary problem at Germantown High School, where 40 of the 1,500 students have already been transferred to other schools due to inappropriate behavior.
The 15-year-old involved in the attack was already being processed for a disciplinary transfer when the assault occurred.
