‘A Distant Shore’ Depicts Black U.S. Soldiers Fighting Racism and the Enemy on D-Day

Ghostly manipulation occurs when one spirit takes over a human body to complete some earthly tasks on “Ghost Whisperer,” at 7 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.

Does she live? Does she die? If you saw Thursday’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” you already know the answer. If you didn’t, ABC is repeating the final story of a three-episode story arc with Meredith struggling for her life at 7 p.m. Friday on ABC, channel 8.

What we will have here is a failure to communicate if you don’t watch the classic Paul Newman film “Cool Hand Luke” at 7 p.m. Friday on AMC, cable channel 48.

Fans of classic films: Let the show begin with “The Greatest Show on Earth” at 7 p.m. Friday on Turner Classic Movies, cable digital channel 210. This 1952 extravaganza from the late, great Cecil B. DeMille focuses on life under the Big Top with a galaxy of stars including Betty Hutton, Charlton Heston, Cornel Wilde, Dorothy Lamour, Gloria Grahame and the king of clowns Emmett Kelly as himself.

Must be Sweeps if Los Lonely Boys is performing at the company picnic on “Las Vegas” at 8 p.m. Friday on NBC, channel 23 and cable channel 9.

You didn’t get to see the O.J. Simpson interview or read his book, but “Law & Order” has ripped that story from the headlines with an episode in which a person publishes a book describing murders he may have committed — and is then found dead. The series airs at 9 p.m. Friday on NBC, channel 2 and cable channel 9.

A kidnapping complicates a case on “Numb3rs,” airing at 9 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.

History Channel celebrates Black History Month with “A Distant Shore: African Americans of D-Day” at 6 p.m. Saturday on cable channel 55. This documentary tells the stories of soldiers who coped with discrimination from within their ranks at the same time they were battling the enemy.

CBS is trying to recapture the momentum “Jericho” had before its mid-season hiatus with a repeat of Wednesday’s episode at 7 p.m. Saturday on channel 6. In this one, viewers will learn what occurred in the lives of the main characters before the nuclear blasts.

Tom Hanks is just a simple fellow who finds himself involved in most of the major events of his era in “Forrest Gump,” at 7 p.m. Saturday on ABC, channel 8.

TCM, cable digital channel 210, on Saturday celebrates Oscar winners (on this Academy Awards weekend) with some of the best films of all time: “The Bridge on the River Kwai” at noon, “Lawrence of Arabia” at 3 p.m. and “A Man for All Seasons” at 7 p.m.

A high-roller has a one-night stand who pays the ultimate price on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” at 8 p.m. Saturday on CBS, channel 6.

Goren searches for a female soldier who disappeared while on leave on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” at 9 p.m. Saturday on NBC, channel 2 and cable channel 9.

Sarah Silverman is host of the “Independent Spirit Awards” honoring small films at 9 p.m. Saturday on AMC, cable channel 48.

Starz leads up to Sunday’s night’s Oscars with a 12-hour “Black Tie Tailgate Party” on Starz Cinema and Encore. Get ready to roll out the red carpet. To prepare for Sunday night’s Oscar show, catch previews at 11 a.m. on E!, cable channel 60, and at 1 p.m. on TV Guide Channel, cable channel 2.

Then, ABC, channel 8, will kick off its evening with “The Barbara Walters Special” at 6 p.m., followed by “The Road to the Oscars” at 7 and “The 79th Annual Academy Awards” at 7:30 p.m. Ellen DeGeneres will be your host.

“Amazing Race: All Stars” which had low ratings last Sunday for its season premiere, will go up against the jolly gold giant at 7 p.m. Sunday with a new episode on CBS, channel 6.

“Grease: You’re the One That I Want,” which also went on the ratings skid last Sunday, tackles the same giant at 7 p.m. with a new episode on NBC, channel 2 and cable channel 9. Frankie Avalon will sing “Beauty School Dropout” with the final four female contestants.

At 9 p.m. Sunday, “Crossing Jordan” goes a little Alfred Hitchcockish with an episode in which the medical examiner’s staff prepares to do an autopsy and finds the person (Ron Silver) is very much alive.
