AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2003--
Defrag Manager Extends Hardware Life,
Speeds Up Performance
Winternals, a leading provider of Microsoft systems infrastructure availability and performance solutions, today announced that the Comporium Group has chosen Winternals' enterprise defragmentation solution, Defrag Manager, to optimize the efficiency of its IT infrastructure. Defrag Manager will increase system performance throughout the organization and prolong the life of 800 newly purchased Windows 2000 servers and workstations at 26 sites.
"Following our migration from Netware to Windows 2000, we installed a new server base and ordered new workstations to replace outdated ones," said Andy Shook, Comporium's Network Administrator. "We recognized that we needed a defrag solution to maximize our investment by proactively maintaining our new hardware."
"If we can extend the life of our machines from three years to five, we'll eliminate costly upgrades, which is an obvious gain in the bottom line for the company," said Adam Dudak, PC Support Supervisor at Comporium.
Disk fragmentation results in lengthy waits for file access, extensive reboot time, hours spent conducting backups, and eventual data corruption. The financial burden caused by fragmentation -- including lowered productivity, more help desk calls, increased IT staff costs, service delays, and unnecessary hardware upgrades -- can be controlled through routine defragmentation.
Comporium Group evaluated several network defragmentation products before choosing Defrag Manager. The product's ability to be administered from one console without the need for manual client installations was a deciding factor in the purchase. Shook also said that Defrag Manager was the only product that allowed him to view reports of multiple groups or Active Directory Organization Units at one time. High performance relative to cost was also cited in the decision.
"Previously we had to use the built-in defragger to manually defrag each server late at night," Shook said. "Now we schedule automatic defragmentation once a week, through a simple point and click process. We no longer have to physically touch each machine. It's a tremendous time savings for our staff. That's the biggest ROI factor."
About Winternals Defrag Manager
Defrag Manager remotely schedules, deploys, monitors, and controls defragmentation throughout any-sized Windows network from a single console, without manual installation on client systems. It deploys a low-system-overhead defrag agent to each client according to a schedule that the systems administrator designates. The agent utilizes a proprietary defragmentation algorithm that automatically completes the defrag process in a single pass, and then removes itself from each system.
With Defrag Manager, all defragmentation tasks are controlled and configured from one system -- regardless of the number of computers in the network or the physical location of the machines. Administrators can schedule automatic defragmentation for a single PC, a group of workstations, or an entire Active Directory Organization Unit with a single drag and drop.
Defrag Manager allows the administrator to eliminate all end-user interaction in the defragmentation process, thereby reducing costly desk side support and the time and effort required for manual client installations. Results are seen in the form of better application performance, averted hardware upgrades, greater end-user productivity, and reduced workload for IT staff.
