Netilla Launches Secure Gateway Appliance Family of Application-Specific SSL VPN Products

Posted on: Monday, 13 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

SOMERSET, N.J., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Netilla(R) Networks, Inc., a premier supplier of secure application access management products, today introduced the Netilla Secure Gateway Appliance-C (SGA-C), an affordable SSL VPN appliance expressly designed to provide clientless secure remote access to Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Presentation Server applications. The Netilla SGA-C marks the first in a new line of preconfigured application-specific SSL VPN appliances designed for small to midsize enterprises.

"As a longtime Netilla customer, we already enjoy the benefits of secure Web-based application access," said Jim Abshire, manager of operations and systems, Herr's Foods, Inc., Nottingham, Penn. "But we also have an extensive Citrix MetaFrame infrastructure, and we're looking into new ways to provide secure access to these applications to authorized users outside the firewall, such as our management team who want to access the system at home or while away from the office. Netilla's new SGA-C platform is a simple and very cost- effective solution for doing just that."

Netilla SGA-C supports 25 or 50 concurrent users; pricing is $4,995 for 25 licenses and $6,495 for 50 licenses, with no limit on the number of named users. Netilla will make the SGA available to customers through any Netilla- or Citrix-certified reseller, in keeping with its strategy of marketing exclusively through the channel. General availability is set for Oct. 1. Netilla's Secure Desktop, an encrypted virtual workspace that wipes away all traces of a session will also be an option.

Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server allows easy sharing of server-based applications within an enterprise; however, providing secure Web-based remote access to those applications can be a complex process. Netilla SGA-C solves that challenge by using Netilla's Web reverse proxy to provide secure remote access to all authorized MetaFrame applications via MetaFrame Web Interface.

As a result, a company's remote employees, extranet users and business partners can use SGA-C to remotely access Citrix applications with any Web- enabled PC, without having to install any software. The SGA-C's streamlined login page lets users launch applications quickly and easily, making it an ideal solution even for people who have never used remote access before.

Netilla dynaTRUST O/S Offers Advanced Security

The SGA-C incorporates dynaTRUST, Netilla's policy-enforcement operating system, which provides a wealth of advanced security features also found in the company's flagship Netilla Security Platform (NSP) SSL VPN appliances. These include an integrated stateful packet inspection firewall and integrated client integrity options such as a secure desktop environment and cache cleaning tools. For highly secure governmental and financial services applications, client-side certificates and revocation lists are supported. dynaTRUST also offers Virtual Realms, an exclusive Netilla technology that allows a single appliance to be logically partitioned to accommodate different group authentication requirements within an organization.

dynaTRUST also supports password-based and strong authentication to a broad range of solutions, including Microsoft Windows, RADIUS, RSA SecurID, ActivCard, Aladdin and VASCO, as well as policy enforcement derived from information held in identity management stores such as Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP-based directories.

"Our new Netilla SGA-C should have strong appeal to many of the 120,000 enterprises who are already using Citrix but need a simple, cost-effective way to provide secure Web-based remote access to these valuable applications," said Reggie Best, president and CEO of Netilla Networks. "The simplicity and streamlined setup that Netilla is known for should make SGA an especially high-volume, high-margin product for the channel, requiring little investment for most partners to play in this fast-growing part of the IT security market."

"Netilla's SGA-C should really ignite the untapped market for Web-based remote access among the large installed base of Citrix MetaFrame enterprise accounts," said Chris Mangano, director of business development at DJS Technology Solutions (http://www.djs.com/), a systems integrator in Colmar, Penn. "The reseller wins on three counts: value, a quick and easy install, and the ability to sell additional Citrix licenses. We expect to move a lot of these boxes and to generate solid margins on each one."

Resellers can obtain SGA-C products and support from Netilla distributors including Alternative Technology (http://www.alttech.com/) in North America, Allasso Group (http://www.allasso.com/) in the U.K. and Xynyx Corporation (http://www.xynyx.co.jp/) or IT Frontier (http://www.itfrontier.co.jp/) in Japan.
