Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication Receives TMC(R) Labs Innovation Award

Posted on: Monday, 13 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

CALABASAS, Calif., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alcatel today announced that its OmniTouch Unified Communications application suite was a recipient of the prestigious Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC(R)) Labs Innovation Award for 2004.

"The Innovation Awards exemplify the best and the most unique products and services that this industry has to offer," said Tom Keating, CTO and TMC Labs Editorial Director at TMC. "Alcatel has demonstrated a commitment to quality, and a commitment to the further development of the IP Telephony industry through its Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication suite. Alcatel deserves this great honor, and I look forward to seeing other innovative solutions from them as they continue to contribute to the future of the enterprise communications software marketplace."

Alcatel's Unified Communications application suite enables Enterprise users to communicate and share knowledge more effectively. According to Jack Chen, chief information officer at Adelphi University, "Alcatel's Unified Communications application suite provides Adelphi University's faculty, staff and students the ability to be reached anywhere, through any communications device. Through these applications, the population at Adelphi can access information using the Web as the primary interface and tailor the means in which they receive information or communicate. This will enable us to push information to students about class schedules on an ongoing basis, create efficient interaction between administrators for communication or meeting purposes, and establish one tool to access messages for faculty and others."

Alcatel's platform is the first unified communication solution implemented using the latest open standards such as XML/SOAP, SIP and VXML. This software applications suite can be fully integrated into Enterprise web services portals such as IBM WebSphere, Microsoft Share point, CRM applications, and ERP applications. Using open standards simplifies integration of applications within IT organizations, minimizing capital expenditures and time.

"Alcatel's depth of experience lends to our creating and delivering innovative tools for the industry that collaborate with existing networks," said Tom Eggemeier, vice president and general manager for Alcatel North American enterprise voice solutions. "Alcatel is focused on providing our customers communication solutions that improve businesses processes, while increasing productivity and decreasing costs. We are pleased to be awarded the TMC Labs Innovation Award as it demonstrates Alcatel's continued leadership in providing the most innovative solutions in the industry."

The Alcatel OmniTouch Unified Communication suite includes four applications:

* My Messaging -- A voiceXML-based unified messaging application for

handling non real time communications with a single multi-media

mailbox (voicemail, email and faxes) that leverages existing rich

e-mail clients. My Messaging capabilities are available both in the

office and for mobile workers, providing access through a web client

or any mobile device.

* My Phone -- An XML/SOAP-based real-time communications management tool

that transforms any phone into a business phone, enabling access to

full telephony features, including click to dial, unified directory

access, and call log.

* My Assistant -- Provides one-number follow-me capabilities and call

screening through personal routing rules defined by the individual

user. These rules can be set up in the office or while away through

web access or via touch tone from any mobile device. My Assistant is

a powerful tool for mobile workers who need to stay in touch while

traveling.

* My Teamwork -- Enables knowledge sharing and collaboration through

voice and data conferencing. Through a simple-to-use web interface,

employees can initiate conferences, including audio, data and

application sharing, on demand or through scheduling on a regular

basis. My Teamwork will be available in a future release.

Each of the above applications uses open source technology through an XML Application Program Interface (API). Alcatel utilizes XML standards to enable customers' easy integration with existing programs, IT applications and systems, bridging communications technology and applications to solve business problems and create new opportunities.
