Siemens HiPath Managed Services Enables City to Offer Residents Quality Wireless Broadband Now and in the Future

Posted on: Monday, 5 March 2007, 09:00 CST

Siemens Communications Inc. [NYSE: SI] today announced that the City of Lompoc, Calif., has selected Siemens HiPath Managed Services to provide support and continuous monitoring of the city's wireless network.

Lompoc, known as the "City of Arts and Flowers," is nestled at the foot of the Santa Ynez Mountains, 155 miles north of Los Angeles, and 55 miles west of Santa Barbara. The city government wanted to offer residents and businesses a subscription-based wireless broadband network that would grow with citizens' usage and technology needs. To ensure the success of the project, the city wanted a strong technology management and customer support plan. "We lacked staff and expertise to maintain the network in-house," said John Greenly, Wireless Services Administrator for the City of Lompoc. "Enhancing our subscribers' satisfaction is our number-one priority, and Siemens' assistance enables us to do that most effectively while controlling costs."

Siemens Communications' experience with municipal Wi-Fi networks, its scalable solutions and its compatibility with Lompoc's existing infrastructure convinced the city to choose Siemens over all competitors. Siemens now provides its HiPath Managed Services Service Desk and Network Operations Center support for the LompocNet network, the wireless Internet Service Provider that the city owns and operates. Under a three-year contract, Siemens will provide experienced management and technical staff to perform service desk support and network monitoring from remote centers in Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Irving, Texas.

Siemens HiPath Managed Services offers a single point of contact and accountability for service needs within multivendor communications infrastructures. A comprehensive portfolio of out-tasking and consultative services includes IP convergence monitoring and remote management of data networks, applications, servers and communication platforms. The portfolio also includes operational services such as end-user service desks, asset management, software MACs, implementation, project management, vendor coordination and disaster recovery.

"Our solution with the City of Lompoc demonstrates our focus on innovative services that help our customers harness the full business value of their communications investment," said Todd Habersang, Vice President of Managed Services at Siemens Communications. "Through our Open Unified Communications philosophy, we provide flexible, scalable and user-centric technology and services that work on any platform or device -- virtually anywhere, anytime. Our key role is to understand our customers' business, become their trusted partner and help them achieve their potential."
