AddThis.Com Reaches 100 Million Widgets Served - Social Bookmarking

PRINCETON, N.J., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- AddThis.com announced today it has reached the 100 Million mark for the number of times its popular social bookmarking and feed reader widgets have been served to-date (since October). At a growth rate of 100% per month, the widget is now being viewed over 2 Million times each day.
AddThis provides Web Publishers with simple and recognizable widgets (buttons) to help their visitors bookmark and share their content to the social bookmarking and feed reader services.
AddThis is great for Web Publishers, says co-founder Dom Vonarburg, because it helps them create a buzz for their website or blog on social media services such as Del.icio.us, Digg, Technorati, StumbleUpon, etc. This buzz can in turn generate substantial fresh and highly targeted traffic back to these Web Publishers. AddThis also generates valuable statistics for Web Publishers showing them what their visitors bookmark the most, or how often these visitors subscribe to their feeds. AddThis was launched in September at DEMOfall 2006, in San Diego.
Social Media Optimization (SMO) is becoming a very important factor for gaining reputation and visibility online. This is good news because it means that visibility is becoming less dependent on machine algorithms (classic Search Engine Optimization, or SEO) and more on "wisdom of the crowds". This is Web2.0, the people as platform, or the social OS.
