CentricStor Virtual Tape System Adds VM and VSE Operating Systems Support

Posted on: Tuesday, 14 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

CentricStor(TM), a powerful, heterogeneous virtual tape system that supports the predominant operating systems and backup applications, has added support for IBM VM and VSE operating systems and backup applications. Developed by Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT provider, CentricStor is available in the U.S. from master distributor PeakData Inc., a Colorado-based storage solutions provider, and PeakData's reseller partners.

CentricStor is the first and only self-contained, heterogeneous virtual tape system that supports the predominant operating system environments and back-up applications as well as major tape automation platforms and tape devices from such prominent companies as StorageTek, ADIC and IBM.

CentricStor enables today's complex data centers to consolidate their tape environments onto fewer real tape devices and tape libraries while shrinking backup windows and dramatically reducing data recovery times. The net result is a less capital and resource intensive environment that saves money and time and reduces business risk.

Support for VM and VSE environments expands on the previously supported operating environments including MVS, OS/400, Unix, Windows, Linux and others. VM and VSE backup applications include Dynam-T, VM-Backup and EPIC. Open Systems backup applications supported include TSM, NetBackup, Networker and Data Protector.

"CentricStor not only supports the broadest array of operating platforms in the industry, with this latest addition it is the only virtual tape platform to directly support VM and VSE," said Mike Holland, vice president and general manager, CentricStor Business Unit, PeakData, Inc. "There are still hundreds of VM and VSE sites worldwide. We offer multiple benefits to these installations. Many are operating with older tape technologies and no automation. Using the CentricStor virtual solution, these sites are now able to automate with a modern, high-performance, enterprise-wide tape consolidation solution to their tape storage problems that is both effective and easy to cost-justify," said Holland.
