The new sculpture, titled “Seasons,” hangs 40 feet above the ground and consists of four luminous trees of hand-blown glass leaves. Continuously changing colors every 45-60 seconds, the trees represent each of the four seasons. The fixture utilizes 12 fiber optic illuminators and Fiberstars’ unique color wheel to create vibrant colors throughout the 3,200 feet of multi-strand fiber. The new Aultman 2010 facility has been honored with the Distinguished Design Award from the American Institute of Architects.
“We are happy to contribute to this prestigious local project at the esteemed Aultman hospital,” says Fiberstars’ CEO John Davenport. “This project demonstrates the diverse advantages of fiber optic lighting offers by providing aesthetically superior lighting solutions as well as reduced time and effort spent maintaining the new sculpture.”
Aultman Hospital has been offering high-quality health-care services and health and wellness education for the community since 1892. The hospital is comprised of 682 beds, 530 active physicians in 43 different medical specialties and a staff of more than 5,000 employees. The 2010 facility includes the Aultman Heart Center, Birth Center and the Emergency and Trauma Center.
“We were originally considering using floodlights to light the sculpture, but with the fixture being 40 feet in the air, regular maintenance and continuous light bulb replacement would have been exceedingly difficult,” said Betsy Pooley, Engineer at Aultman Hospital. “We were delighted when we discovered that Fiberstars would solve our maintenance concerns and add even more long lasting and colorful light to our new facilities.”
“With the versatility that Fiberstars’ technology provides, I was able to arrange the lighting at the base of the leaves to provide optimal color enhancement and a stunning affect of continuously rotating colors,” says Don Lundstrom, Sculptor and Designer.
Fiberstars products can be found in grocery store aisles, department stores, office buildings, as well as world famous museums and resorts around the globe.
