LANsurveyor(R) 9.7 Supports Windows Vista and Microsoft SQL Server Express

Posted on: Wednesday, 7 March 2007, 09:00 CST

Neon Software, Inc. announced today the immediate availability of LANsurveyor® version 9.7 for Windows. Network administrators utilize LANsurveyor to efficiently document, safeguard, and monitor their networks with automated graphical network mapping, asset management reports, network monitoring, and intrusion detection.

Full Microsoft Windows Vista Compatibility

The new version of LANsurveyor provides explicit support for Microsoft Windows Vista including registry, user folder, and application folder requirements.

Neon Software has been working closely with Microsoft to create a version of LANsurveyor that complies with Vista's new data and security requirements for application and user data. LANsurveyor 9.7 meets all of Vista's requirements and automatically upgrades pre-9.7 installations.

When customers upgrade to or install LANsurveyor 9.7, application settings, log files, and configurations are installed or copied to the 'All Users' folder where they will be maintained from this release on. This change will make backing up key LANsurveyor files and/or moving LANsurveyor to a different computer much easier in the future.

SQL Server Express

The default 'free' SQL database will change from MSDE (Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine) to SQL Server Express. While this will not affect current MSDE Repository installations, LANsurveyor users who upgrade to SQL Server Express can take advantage of the additional capacity now supported (up to 4GB from 2GB).

LANsurveyor also supports Microsoft SQL Server for larger installations or as a central data Repository for multiple copies of LANsurveyor running simultaneously on different network segments.

Availability and Pricing

LANsurveyor 9.7 is now available from Neon Software resellers, distributors, and the Neon Software web site at www.neon.com.

LANsurveyor, which can map any size LAN or WAN, has a suggested retail price of US$995.

Neon Responders, the LANsurveyor client software used for asset management, reporting, and management, are available in add-on packs for between $9 and $20 per node, depending upon quantity purchased.

Continuous Scan IDS, a US$495 add-on, is the first product to view intrusions network-wide from a single computer, even across switches. Unlike other IDS products, Continuous Scan is easy to install, works great on switched networks, requires no additional hardware, and can automatically identify rogue systems and disable their network access.
