IODA, the global leader in digital distribution, marketing, and technology solutions for the independent music industry, and CBC Records, the record label of Canada’s national public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, today announced that they will partner for digital distribution in all territories outside of Canada. The deal will enable CBC Records to make its extensive catalog available internationally through IODA’s network of more than 300 digital retailers, mobile outlets and subscription services worldwide. The announcement was made today from the Canadian Music Week conference in Toronto.

CBC / Radio Canada is recognized as a leader in the development and exposure of Canadian music and musicians nationally and internationally. CBC Records, as a division of CBC Merchandising, is recognized as one of the premier independent music labels featuring some of the country’s finest musicians across all genres. The CBC catalog contains tracks from Canada’s major orchestras including the Montreal Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony, internationally renowned classical musicians such as Glenn Gould, violinist James Ehnes, soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian, Canadian jazz legend Guido Basso, one of the most electrifying new world music groups, the African Guitar Summit, and hundreds of other artists.

While CBC Records has historically led in the Canadian classical music industry recent expansion to other genres including jazz, world, traditional and alternative rock reflects the label’s and the CBC’s goals in attracting broader audiences and consumers. CBC Records has garnered several national (JUNO), international (GRAMMY) and regional awards and nominations demonstrating the highest of artistic and production standards. In making the best music available to Canadians, CBC Records, working together with the Corporation’s Merchandising Division, is one of the most recognized and respected record labels in Canada.

“This partnership will allow the further dissemination of a fabulous Canadian-based musical catalogue and heritage through the growing influence and expertise of a world leader in digital distribution,” said President of CBC Merchandising, Rene Bourdages.

“Digital distribution allows regional music to cross territorial borders and make itself known worldwide,” said IODA founder and CEO Kevin Arnold. “IODA is thrilled to be entrusted to bring the deep, rich catalog of CBC Records to music fans around the globe.”
