Iceland Telecom Ltd., Iceland's Incumbent Telecom Operator, Has Chosen NetCentrex for the Creation of Enterprise and Residential IP Telephony Services

Posted on: Wednesday, 15 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

PARIS, September 15 /PRNewswire/ -- NetCentrex (http://www.netcentrex.net/), the leading enabler of converged voice-video-data networks and next generation services, and Iceland Telecom, the leading telecommunications operator in Iceland, announced today that the company has chosen NetCentrex' Business Services Suite for deployment of IP-based telephony services for the corporate market and is planning trials of NetCentrex' MyCall(R) solution for residential broadband IP telephony services.

Iceland Telecom will use NetCentrex' Business Services Suite to extend its existing portfolio of value-added, broadband data services to include hosted IP telephony services for small, medium and large businesses, including IP Centrex and voice/video virtual private networks (VPN). Trials of the new offer are scheduled to begin in November 2004, with the launch of commercial services planned in the beginning of 2005. Iceland Telecom has also acquired NetCentrex' MyCall(R) solution for trials of residential broadband IP telephony services which would form part of a 2nd stage Triple Play offer. Iceland Telecom will operate both the enterprise and residential services on the same NetCentrex' platform enabling significant reductions in CAPEX and OPEX while gaining flexibility in delivery of the services.

"Iceland's high responsiveness towards innovation and Iceland Telecom's leading role in developing and deploying value-added services led naturally to the adoption of a long-term IP communications strategy," explains Eva Magnusdottir, Press Officer, Iceland Telecom. "We will naturally begin with the deployment of IP Centrex and Voice/Video VPN as a hosted services offer for the enterprise market and evolve to residential IP telephony services as part of a Triple Play offer."

"An important factor in Iceland Telecom's choice of NetCentrex was the possibility to operate both enterprise and residential telephony services on the same core technology platforms, optimising resources, investment and operational costs. The scalability of the technologies, the rapid time to market, advanced service features and ability to use the solutions in a multiprotocol environment were also significant in our decision," continues Ms. Magnusdottir.
