HP Maintains World Blade Market Lead
HEWLETT-PACKARD Co has taken the No. 1 position in worldwide blade server factory revenue and units shipped, according to the fourth quarter 2006 server market figures from industry analyst firm IDC. HP overtook IBM to lead the blade server market with 41.9 per cent factory revenue share.
For the 19th consecutive quarter, HP has led the worldwide server market in total units shipped, with 31.6 per cent share in the fourth quarter. The company also outpaced industry unit growth at 4.6 per cent year-on- year in that quarter, taking share from the two nearest competitors.
HP also ranked No. 1 in server units shipped for the fourth quarter. The company showed continued success with its ProLiant family of servers, now available with Intel Xeon quad-core processors, by increasing its lead to 33.9 per cent factory revenue share in the fourth quarter.
Besides that, HP maintained the top position in the high-end Unix server segment and increased year-on-year revenue and units shipped in the volume Unix segment. In the increasingly competitive AMD Opteron processor-based server segment, the company increased its fourth quarter share year-on- year in terms of revenue and units shipped by 4.6 per cent and 5.6 per cent respectively.
