AT&T Launches Five New Cell Sites in Southeastern Kentucky

Posted on: Tuesday, 13 March 2007, 06:00 CDT

LEXINGTON, Ky., and LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. announced today that Cingular, now AT&T and the nation's largest wireless carrier, has upgraded and expanded its Kentucky wireless service by launching five new cell sites in southeastern Kentucky this year.

The new sites bring new or enhanced coverage to the company's wireless customers in the following areas:

-- Northeastern Wayne County and southwestern Pulaski County, along Hwy. 90 from Monticello to Steubenville -- Central Rockcastle County, from Conway to Livingston -- Along the Cumberland Parkway, from north of Columbia to Edmonton

In addition to the five new cell sites completed in these areas since January, AT&T added more than 25 cell sites in the Kentucky market last year, expanding coverage and enhancing network capacity for residents and visitors. The company also completed the integration of its cell sites with those of the former Cingular Wireless to establish a single, enhanced network. As a result, AT&T's ALLOVER(TM) Network* -- the nation's largest digital voice and data network -- has grown bigger and better across the Commonwealth.

"The past two years were unprecedented -- investing almost $1.3 billion nationwide to deliver a quality wireless experience to our customers here," said Jim Thorpe, vice president and general manager for the company's Tennessee/Kentucky market. "This recent expansion that we completed in southeastern Kentucky enables us to provide enhanced coverage for our customers in the area -- today and into the future."

"This announcement is very good news for Pulaski and Rockcastle County- area citizens, as well as those in surrounding counties, who will benefit from this new investment in wireless technology. We are pleased with the investment confidence that AT&T continues to show in southeastern Kentucky," said Representative Danny Ford.

Thorpe added, "AT&T will continue its momentum and focus on delivering a strong network, innovative wireless products and services, and a quality customer service experience in 2007."

Over the last two years, AT&T has invested more than $13.5 billion nationally in an agressive program to upgrade and expand wireless service and now gives customers access to some 45,000 cell sites -- more than any other wireless carrier in the country.

*The ALLOVER(TM) Network covers more than 273 million people. Coverage is not available in all areas.
