Dr. Michael Mallary of Seagate Research Named IEEE Fellow
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., March 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Seagate Technology(R) today announced that Dr. Michael Mallary, a member of the research team at Seagate, was named a Fellow by the IEEE Board of Directors. The IEEE, the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology, is honoring Dr. Mallary for his significant contributions to recording devices, like hard disc drives.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth percent of the total voting Institute membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. 268 individuals have been elected to IEEE Fellow for 2007.

Dr. Mallary has a career that has spanned more than 27 years in the field of magnetic recording. He holds 53 patents and has authored 46 publications. He received an S.B. degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. degree in Experimental High Energy Physics from the California Institute of Technology.
