"Diversity and inclusion are integral parts of the way Sprint does business," said David Thomas, vice president and chief diversity officer, Sprint. "These values foster an environment of creativity and innovation and allow us to sustain a competitive advantage, fuel growth and achieve superior market performance. I am pleased that the Jackson County Bar Association recognizes the key role diversity plays at Sprint, and I commend Sprint's legal department for its work in this area."
The award was presented to Tom Gerke, executive vice president - General Council and External Affairs, Sprint, on Saturday, Sept. 18, to honor the department's achievements in advancing diversity. Early in 2004, Sprint's Law and External Affairs departments established their "2004 Diversity Action Plan," a comprehensive plan stressing diversity and inclusion. Throughout the year they have executed against this plan, with measurable results in the areas of vendor/supplier relationships, recruiting, and active participation in diverse professional associations, while promoting cultural awareness through training and communication.
"We thank the Jackson County Bar Association for honoring our efforts and the progress made to date," said Gerke. "We look forward to continuing these efforts that are well under way."
