Alcatel-Lucent Reinforces Leadership in Optical Networking According to Ovum-RHK

PARIS, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today confirmed its optical networking leadership by consolidating its #1 position with a 24.2 % market share during Q4 06 and securing a share of 23.3% for the full year 2006, according to Ovum-RHK.
"Alcatel-Lucent's quarterly revenues were particularly strong due to results in EMEA. The company's EMEA performance in the increasingly significant metro WDM market was particularly noteworthy: it nearly tripled its 3Q06 revenues to post 32 percent share in EMEA for the quarter," stated Dana Cooperson, Vice President of the Optical Infrastructure at Ovum-RHK. "Overall, Alcatel-Lucent has extensive product line and solutions breadth, very good distribution of sales across its optical product lines, and a strong leading share of SDH/multiservice aggregation and global optical core switching sales."
Key drivers of the Alcatel-Lucent performance were: the on-going IP network transformation in fixed and mobile networks, the continued momentum in mobile backhaul infrastructure deployment, as well as the largely increasing activity in verticals. Furthermore, ROADM-based solutions ramped up, especially in Europe.

Customer announcements in 2006 included: Telefonica (Spain), Wind (Italy), Guangzhou CATV (China), HanseNet (Germany), Telekom Austria, Golden Line (Russia) and Triple T Broadband (Thailand) for triple play services and network transformation; Cingular Wireless (US), APTG (Indonesia), SkyLink (Russia), TATA (India), Bluegrass Cellular and Centennial Communications (US) for mobile backhauling; FastWeb (to address the communications need of Public administration in Italy), NEK (Bulgaria) and RAILTEL (India) for vertical markets; Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan) and (Mediaset (Italy) for video services delivery.
