NSI Software To Develop Solutions Based On Microsoft Data Protection Server And NSI Double-Take

Posted on: Monday, 20 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

NSI Plans Support for Microsoft Data Protection Server with Specialized Solutions that Extend Data Availability, Recoverability and Failover for Data-Intensive Organizations

NSI Software, Inc. (NSI(R)) today announced plans to support the newly announced Microsoft Data Protection Server (DPS), part of the Windows Server System. NSI and Microsoft are working together to provide advanced data protection and recovery solutions for business environments that take advantage of NSI Software's Double-Take(R) replication and failover software to increase data availability and recoverability for data-intensive organizations.

The volume of data and reliance on critical systems and applications is on the rise. Organizations with remote or branch offices or the need for data and system high-availability require the extension of their data backup and protection schemes to include off-site replication and system protection and failover. Running Double-Take with Microsoft Data Protection Server will ensure:

-- Off-Site Protection and Recovery of Microsoft DPS Backups. Most companies store their tape backups off-site. Double-Take off-site replication can be used to provide an up-to-date off-site copy of the data being protected by Microsoft DPS. Should the primary DPS server or site fail, the same data can also be recovered from an off-site location.

-- Rapid Recovery of Applications and Data in Minutes or Seconds. For some data and applications, any restore time is too long. Organizations in today's fast paced business environment need immediate failover of mission critical applications. DPS can address the need to recover data to a previous point in time, but in the event of server or site failure, the automatic failover capabilities of Double-Take enable a secondary server to stand in, providing maximum availability to end users.

-- Complete Recovery Architecture. The combination of DPS and Double-Take allows users to easily scale their data recovery systems beyond a single site and address the full range of common recovery needs, including protection of critical applications. Using Microsoft DPS in branch offices allows rapid recovery of server data. Used in conjunction with Data Protection Server, Double-Take can provide high-availability failover and WAN-optimized, off-site data replication for applications like Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle(R) databases in addition to maintaining an off-site copy of the local DPS server.

"Customers are telling us that cost and complexity are making backup and recovery increasingly difficult," said Jim Hebert, general manager, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. "Microsoft is pleased to be working with NSI to provide customers of all sizes with a broad choice of low-cost, continuous disk-based backup and recovery solutions that are easy to manage and deploy."

Don Beeler, CEO of NSI Software, said "Microsoft Data Protection Server is a positive indicator for the data protection market. Organizations that adopt DPS will have a more comprehensive understanding of the value of their data and the need for enhanced data protection and recoverability. Working strategically with Microsoft, NSI can extend the building blocks of DPS to provide companies the highest levels of assurance that their critical business data, systems and applications will be protected and always available."

Microsoft Data Protection Server will provide businesses an affordable, continuous disk-based backup and recovery solution for the protection of business data. NSI Software's Double-Take is the Windows market leader in continuous real-time data replication and high-availability for mid-to-large companies. The Double-Take core feature set includes host-based, real-time replication without geographic limitations, application protection and automatic failover capabilities. These capabilities facilitate continuous data protection, reduce downtime, eliminate data loss, and enhance the capabilities and performance of existing backup systems. Many of the Fortune 500 and leaders in international banking, finance, legal services, retail, government and manufacturing use Double-Take to ensure minimal data loss and rapid recovery from any disaster or system outage.
