Qosmos Announces Support for Cavium Networks OCTEON(TM) Multicore MIPS64(R) Based Processors
PARIS, France and MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, March 21 /PRNewswire/ — Qosmos (http://www.qosmos.com/), a leader in Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology , announced today its partnership with Cavium Networks, a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor processors that enable intelligent networking, communications and security applications, to deliver optimised Q-Engine software suites ready-to-run on Cavium Networks’ OCTEON(TM) Multi-core MIPS64 based processor family.
Qosmos Q-Engine is the most powerful Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology on the market, providing 100% successful identification of application protocols at wirespeeds up to 10 Gbit/s.
Qosmos Q-Engine is a software development kit (SDK) for implementing new generation traffic classification technology in network equipment. Qosmos Q-Engine inspects Layer 2 through Layer 7 of the OSI model, managing peer to peer traffic as well as proprietary business applications. The DPI technology identifies and classifies traffic based on a signature database enabling the user to perform flow redirection, marking/tagging for QoS purposes, blocking, rate limiting, and reporting to an agent on the network.
The OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 based processor family consists of over 25 different parts with application performance ranging from 1Gbps to 10Gbps and price points starting under $20. The OCTEON processor family consists of processors with 1 to 16 cores on a single chip with integrated Ethernet and/or SPI4.2 networking interfaces, DRAM DDR-2 memory controller, optional RLDRAM/DDR-2 memory controller, optional TCAM connectivity and internal hardware acceleration for packet processing, TCP, Security, compression / decompression and string matching.
Q-Engine software and the OCTEON processors are used by independent software vendors and networking equipment vendors to build solutions requiring real time monitoring of IP flows and extraction of data to deliver critical services such as service quality and customer experience management, lawful intercept, communications and data loss control, mobile data services charging and market intelligence.
“Cavium Networks is pleased to partner with Qosmos, whose cutting edge DPI software platform will enable our mutual OEM customers to develop and launch innovative new services platforms over high throughput networks of 10 Gbit/s or more, with reduced time to market and low cost”, says Rajiv Khemani, Vice-President of Marketing and Sales of Cavium Networks.
“The combination of Q-Engine software with OCTEON processors gives ISVs and networking equipment manufacturers a tested foundation on which they can now build a variety of innovative services that require powerful deep packet analysis and real time monitoring of key data, extracted from high throughput IP flows. These services can be either passive or intrusive over the network, and will empower our partners to market solutions that actually control the use and the behaviour of IP networks at the finest granular level. In addition, they will no longer have to spend costly time and resources on software and hardware integration, which is key to gaining leadership in this fast growing market”, says Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO of Qosmos.
