Intellisync Corporation Named in Leadership Grid for Enterprise Mobile Device Management

Posted on: Tuesday, 21 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Intellisync Corporation , a leading provider of mobility and synchronization solutions, today announced that IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice, positioned Intellisync in the "Leader" quadrant of its highly regarded research report on enterprise mobile device management. The report, entitled Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2003 Vendor Shares (IDC# 31745, August 2004), is an important research tool utilized by senior executives at large enterprises, network operators, device manufacturers and software providers around the world.

IDC's Leadership Grid provides a qualitative comparison of vendors within the mobile device management enterprise market. The Grid is a pictorial representation of each vendor's position in the market based on two factors: the vendor's ability to gain share and its alignment with future market opportunities.

In its report, IDC concluded that "Intellisync delivers a comprehensive MDM [mobile device management] solution that will also include support for smart phones, enhanced mobile security, and fully push-enabled systems management." It added that "Intellisync can expect increased penetration of its MDM products as it deploys other mobile enablement solutions to its customer base."

"Network operators and enterprises demand options for device platform support," explained Rip Gerber, chief marketing officer for Intellisync. "But, with choice comes complexity. Thus, mobile device management is an important factor in enabling enterprises to maximize return on their mobile investments and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) for all devices, from smartphones to laptops. As an integrated mobility solution with both device management and wireless email at its core, our Intellisync(R) Mobile Suite(TM) platform provides essential capabilities for making mobility a strategic corporate asset."

According to IDC, the mobile device management market will continue to grow in 2004 as customers become increasingly aware of the need for complete mobile solutions -- and as vendors address those needs by enhancing their existing MDM technology. Advanced MDM functions identified by IDC include backup and recovery, mobile security (including authentication, encryption and password protection), directory services integration, support for offline synchronization and over-the-air wireless synchronization, and compatibility with a broad range of operating systems and connectivity environments.

"Full-featured mobile device management solutions are a critical component in enterprise mobility deployment projects," explained Stephen Drake, program manager, Mobile Infrastructure Software, for IDC. "As enterprises become more aware of the benefits of mobile device management, companies such as Intellisync can expect increased success in selling its MDM solution to customers purchasing one or more of its mobile offerings."

"Enterprise decision makers continually turn to IDC for counsel on solutions that will allow them to implement their mobile business strategies," said Gerber. "Intellisync is delighted that our robust mobile device management solution met the challenge of IDC's rigorous evaluation criteria."
