SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) , the world's leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs), today announced that its SilkWorm(R) 24000 Director is certified for operation with the new Hitachi TagmaStore(TM) Universal Storage Platform. As a result, Hitachi Data Systems and Brocade, which have worked together to provide leadership networked storage solutions to Fortune 1000 companies for more than five years, are significantly advancing the level of performance, availability, scalability, and interoperability to enterprise storage users.
Launched in April 2004, the SilkWorm 24000 Director has quickly achieved a high rate of market acceptance and contributed to the improved market position of Brocade in the SAN director segment. According to estimates by industry research firm Dell'Oro Group, the Brocade share of the director market grew to 31 percent in the second quarter of 2004.
The new Universal Storage Platform delivers two million IOPs (input/output operations per second) -- five times more than any other storage system available in the market today. When linked to the SilkWorm 24000 Director, the platform enables data center managers and storage administrators to maximize the utilization of both storage devices and SAN infrastructure.
"As a long-term partner, Brocade's support of our new platform assists us in delivering best-of-class storage solutions," said Scott Genereux, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Global Channels at Hitachi Data Systems. "The SilkWorm 24000 is a powerful director that helps extend the scalability of the Universal Storage Platform."
Because both the SilkWorm 24000 Director and the Universal Storage Platform support an open architecture, the combination can be used to connect to a broad range of heterogeneous environments. The SilkWorm 24000 provides 128 ports to help utilize the full capacity of the Universal Storage Platform by connecting to more hosts and devices in both open systems and mainframe environments.
"With increasing government regulations and accelerated data growth, there is tremendous demand for higher capacity and performance at large corporations and government agencies," said Nancy Marrone-Hurley, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "Brocade's SilkWorm 24000 director complements the TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform by enabling users to easily connect to and take advantage of its scalability and performance characteristics."
"We congratulate Hitachi Data Systems on its revolutionary step forward with the introduction of the Universal Storage Platform," said Tom Buiocchi, Vice President of Marketing at Brocade. "We are very pleased to be able to reinforce and extend our five-year partnership to help bring a top-of-the-line networked storage solution to our thousands of joint customers and to all organizations that are working to manage exponential data growth."
