Security Alert Over Net Frauds
INTERNET users were today warned to take more responsibility for security online.
The plea followed a survey showing that almost 3.5 million people in the UK had suffered online fraud in the last year. The average loss was GBP875.
And 16-per cent of users believed their bank was responsible for protecting them against fraudsters.
The research was carried out by Get Safe Online, a Government and industry internet safety campaign.
Managing director Tony Neate said: “The internet is a fantastic resource and its use is growing daily. Unfortunately, it is now also being used by criminals who are out to defraud us.
“If we all take greater care to protect our personal information online, we can reduce the majority of these criminal activities.”
