UK utility EDF Energy has selected the networks division of UK-based Babcock International Group to carry out overhead transmission line work in the east and south east of England, and London.

The energy networks alliance partnership will be worth approximately GBP50 million over a five-year period, and will cover the upgrade and development of EDF Energy’s transmission infrastructure. The alliance partnership is due to begin the line work in the first quarter of the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

Peter Rogers, chief executive of Babcock, commented: “This is a significant win for Babcock and recognizes our expertise in the long term network support we provide to every infrastructure owner in the transmission industry.”

Mr Rogers added: “The award presents an excellent opportunity for long term planning which will give our business real efficiency benefits. We look forward to working in partnership with EDF over the coming years.”
