Verrillon Introduces a Family of High Performance Optical Fibers for Oil & Gas Applications; Providing the Reliable Fiberoptic Link to Oil & Gas Productivity Gains

Posted on: Thursday, 23 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

Verrillon, Inc., a leading specialty optical fiber and components manufacturer, today announced the release of its new family of optical fibers for harsh environment applications such as Oil & Gas and geothermal exploration. The new fiber family includes both single-mode and multimode fibers coated with a wide variety of hermetic and high temperature coatings.

Verrillon's harsh environment fibers are designed to be used in the petroleum industry for real-time downhole temperature and pressure measurements, data transmission and imaging applications. "Our harsh environment optical fibers have successfully undergone extensive qualification testing in both customer laboratories and oil field deployments. Verrillon's fibers exhibit high resistance to harsh downhole conditions extending operational lifetimes" said Dr. Abdel Soufiane, Verrillon's Founder and Chief Technology Officer.

"We are pleased with the acceptance of our optical fibers in the Oil & Gas industry where mechanical and optical reliability are key requirements. For the first time, optical fiber has proven to be a viable technology for permanent gauge, well logging and SAGD deployments" said Dana DuToit Verrillon's Director of Global Sales.

Verrillon has made a strong commitment to provide its Oil & Gas customers with high quality hermetic optical fibers. In addition, Verrillon has developed advanced proprietary tools to monitor, test and certify the hermeticity of the optical fiber. Some of the key technologies are online monitoring of the hermetic layer during fiber production, and high pressure, high temperature hydrogen ingression testing. "Verrillon's proprietary technologies offer invaluable information on the uniformity of the hermetic coating throughout the entire fiber run, as well as the level of hermeticity of the optical fiber" said Dr. Imtiaz Majid, Verrillon's O&G Product Manager. This initiative combined with the unmatched team experience has made Verrillon the fiberoptic supplier of choice to the Oil & Gas industry.

"Now Oil & Gas exploration companies can reliably equip existing and new wells with fiberoptic systems for enhanced reservoir productivity" said Dr. Abdel Soufiane.

Verrillon will be exhibiting in Booth #2053 at SPE ATCE 2004 in Houston, TX, September 26-29.
