EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Hackers’ success in opening Apple TV for viewing a wider selection of PC content is yet another validation of Orb Networks’ free MyCasting service (http://www.orb.com/), the company said today.

Orb beat Apple in the PC-to-TV race last week when it announced the ability to use the Wii, PS3 and Xbox game consoles as the bridge from the PC to the TV, creating an instant installed base of 17 million households. Orb’s MyCasting service makes it possible to enjoy all of the digital media stored on the home PC – from photos, videos and music to Internet content – for viewing on the TV screen or any device with a media player and Internet connection.

“Within 24 hours, hackers had taken the Apple TV box and Orb-ized it,” said Joe Costello, chairman and CEO of Orb Networks. “It shows yet again that people don’t want a narrow channel, they want open systems and the freedom to access their own stuff when they want and how they choose.

“Of course, they could have saved themselves the $300 and just downloaded Orb onto their home PC for free,” lamented Costello. “Why pay for another piece of hardware that comes with restrictions when Orb is free and without limits?”

Orb MyCasting lets you enjoy all of the digital entertainment stored on the home PC for viewing on any device with a streaming media player and Internet connection – such as other PCs, laptops, PDAs, mobile phones with streaming players, and now game consoles including Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3. Orb lets users build and organize their own “channels” for music, photos, video, TV and documents stored on their home computer, as well as online videos from the growing source of Internet TV and content sites.
