Micrel Launches New 'It's OOK To ASK' Design Software

Posted on: Monday, 27 September 2004, 06:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Micrel Inc., , an industry leader in Power, Connect and Protect(TM) IC solutions, today announced its new "It's OOK To ASK" QwikRadio(R) design software, a solution aimed at greatly simplifying the implementation of RF designs. The new software, coupled with the high integration levels inherent within Micrel's QwikRadio RF product family, allows designers to easily and quickly develop next generation RF solutions. The software can be downloaded free of charge from the Micrel website (http://www.micrel.com/).

The software only requires the designer to input key parameters applying to their specific application. It then responds with an output that includes a complete schematic and bill of materials. The software also provides the user with a direct link to Micrel's web site where they can download the appropriate PCB layout files for a recommended design.

"RF design is recognized as being notoriously difficult to implement," noted Scott Brown, director of Mixed-Signal and RF products, Micrel. "Micrel's new software makes it easy, painless and quick to sort through the scores of design options and reduces cycle-time and design risk."

Micrel's QwikRadio receivers feature the industry's highest level of integration so that designers need to specify fewer external components. The newest RF product from Micrel, the MICRF009, was announced in August, 2004. The chip is a QwikRadio(R) Low-Power UHF Receiver aimed at the automotive, industrial and consumer markets. The IC offers enhanced performance over other QwikRadio receivers by providing higher sensitivity and faster recovery from shutdown.

"Micrel continues to focus on making the RF design process less complex for designers," said Bob Whelton, executive vice president of Operations, Micrel. "The Company's new software gives designers a tool for streamlining the entire process of designing-in this increasingly challenging technology into a wide variety of products and applications."

Micrel Inc., is a leading manufacturer of advanced, high performance communications, clock management, Ethernet switch and physical layer transceiver, mixed signal, analog and power ICs. These products include devices for fiber-optic telecommunications and networking, cellular telephones, servers, portable computer systems, computer peripherals, process control systems, consumer electronics and power supplies.
