NexTone Named a Winner of Network World's 2007 ''Best of the Tests'' for VoIP Security

Posted on: Wednesday, 4 April 2007, 12:00 CDT

NexTone®, a leader in session border controllers and scalable session management solutions for VoIP, multi-media, and IMS network interconnects, today announced its Multiprotocol Session Exchange (MSX) has won the Network World "Best of the Tests 2007" award for VoIP Security, scoring a 4.5 out of a possible five points. NexTone was one of only 12 companies honored, and the MSX was chosen from among 120 products that Network World tested in 2006.

The Network World testers noted that in the inaugural test of session border controllers, the NexTone MSX and Real-time Session Manager (RSM) combination rated tops for its dynamic VoIP session control, real-time monitoring with active error and threshold-limit notification, call-level reporting, and integrated firewall features.

The configuration tested included NexTone's Linux-based MSX platform and Session Border Controller (SBC). Network World cited the product's exceptional management and reporting by the RSM, augmented by the powerful routing engine of the MSX, as a distinct strength. The publication further praised how the MSX can be set up to divert traffic from low-cost VoIP carrier A to carrier B if the quality measurements of calls via carrier A drop below established thresholds. In addition, the parameters that users can apply for routing decisions by NexTone's MSX were noted as broader than the competition and include, for example, user profile, time of day, and desired QoS. NexTone's MSX is part of its IntelliConnect™ System that includes NexTone's SBC and RSM. Together they manage all aspects of network interconnects for real-time services and applications, including end-user policies, service connectivity, multi-vendor interoperability, and traffic management. In addition, the MSX offers carriers advanced routing capabilities such as dynamic route hunting and an ENUM client. Dynamic route hunting, unique to NexTone, allows carriers to dynamically route traffic to different carrier partners based on call completion rates, route profit, and route availability. NexTone's SBC offers service providers a fast, flexible, and future proof solution to secure their VoIP and IMS networks. NexTone's RSM allows customers to dynamically manage and optimize their services from the network core.

In 2006, NexTone received the "Clear Choice Test Award" from Network World in the publication's first-ever SBC test; NexTone's MSX was rated the best of the large enterprise-focused SBCs tested. The MSX received top scores for dynamic VoIP session control, real-time monitoring with active error and threshold-limit notification, call-level reporting system, and integrated firewall features.
