Highly Integrated Si5100 and Si5310 Provide Industry's Lowest Jitter
Silicon Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ:SLAB) today announced that Photonic Bridges Inc. has selected Silicon Laboratories' Si5100 OC-48 transceiver and Si5310 precision clock multiplier for four next-generation SONET/SDH multi-service transport platforms: the MetroWave(TM) 805, 808 and 809 multi-service access platforms (MSAP) and the MetroWave 8100 multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP). The Si5100 transceiver and Si5310 clock multiplier implement Silicon Laboratories' proprietary DSPLL(R) technology to achieve superior jitter performance while reducing design complexity, system cost and board space.
"Photonic Bridges is leveraging the latest advances in semiconductor technology to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions for the metro optical market," said Pang Ran, product director at Photonic Bridges. "Silicon Laboratories' transceiver and clock solutions offer market-leading jitter performance and integration, enabling us to improve system performance, reduce production costs and achieve a faster time-to-market for our MetroWave product family."
"Silicon Laboratories' investment in jitter management has resulted in a unique portfolio of ultra low jitter clock and transceiver ICs that simplify the design of high-speed optical networking equipment," said Brad Fluke, vice president of Silicon Laboratories. "This performance advantage helps our customers, like Photonic Bridges, exceed the demanding requirements of today's optical networks."
The Si5100 is the industry's only OC-48/STM-16 transceiver incorporating a jitter-attenuating clock multiplier unit with selectable loop filter bandwidths. This feature enables the industry's best jitter performance without requiring expensive external jitter reduction circuitry. Combined with the small size, low power and temperature stability of all Silicon Laboratories' transceiver products, the Si5100 is an optimal solution for high-speed networking applications. To further simplify its system design, Photonic Bridges also chose the Si5310 as a small, reduced cost SONET/SDH clock multiplier.
