Man Charged in Global Probe of Child Porn
PROVIDENCE – An international child-pornography investigation has led to the arrest of a Providence man on charges of possession of child pornography, possession of marijuana and bookmaking.
Brian C. Murphy, 37, of 34 Home Ave., was arrested Friday morning by members of the state police detectives’ bureau computer crimes unit and agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
State police Maj. Steven G. O’Donnell said the Swiss national police forwarded information from a child pornography investigation to the state police, through ICE, after learning that a suspect in their country was allegedly trading child pornography with someone in Rhode Island.
Murphy was brought to District Court, Providence, where Judge Michael A. Higgins set bail at $2,500 and ordered him to have no contact with anyone under age 18.
