Ex-TNB Staff Charged With Graft
THE plea by a Tenaga Nasional Berhad employee facing 15 corruption charges yesterday when asking for the court to impose a low bail seemed ironic.
Azman Abdul Ghani, 40, who pleaded with Petaling Jaya Sessions Court judge Normala Salim on the grounds that he has not worked for three years, said he was helping a friend run motivational programmes in schools.
Azman, who was unrepresented, said this after claiming trial to 15 counts of corruption.
The former equipment development executive with TNB’s business facility unit was charged with abusing his position to sign 75 invoices for TNB to confirm the completion of work by Sri Pandan Computer and Stationery eight years ago.
Anti-Corruption Agency prosecuting officer Ezral Arifin asked for bail to be fixed at RM30,000 for all the charges.
Nurmala, in response to Azman’s plea for lower bail, said the RM2,000 bail for each of the charges was already low.
However, she fixed bail at RM10,000 for the charges with one surety after the accused said that he could only pay RM500 for each of the offences.
Nurmala fixed June 4 for mention to allow the accused to appoint a lawyer.
