ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation's RF Communications Division has received a Level 3 rating for software development in accordance with the Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model(R) (SEI-CMM)(R). This rating was received by the division's Software Engineering organization located in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.
The Software Engineering Institute is a federally funded research and development center operated by Carnegie Mellon University and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense whose mission is to advance the state of the practice of software engineering. The CMM is an industry standard developed by SEI for assessing and improving software processes that result in higher quality and lower development times and costs. The key process areas at Level 3 address the organization and infrastructure that institutionalize effective software engineering and management processes across all projects.
"Achievement of this milestone is an example of Harris' commitment to providing customers with high-quality, low-risk products," said Dick Rzepkowski, Harris RF Communications Division vice president, Government Systems and Programs. "It was this quality process that helped drive the development of Sierra(TM) II, which was recently certified by the National Security Agency."
Harris last week received certification from the National Security Agency (NSA) for its Sierra II programmable cryptographic module. Sierra II is a very small cryptographic device that can be embedded in a variety of voice and data products that require encryption of classified information prior to transmission or storage. Sierra II is now NSA-certified for the protection of voice and data traffic up through the Top Secret/SCI level.
