Sanbolic Announces Software RAID 1 and RAID 5 in LaScala Clustered Volume Manager
Posted on: Monday, 16 April 2007, 09:00 CDT
Sanbolic, Inc., a leading developer of software to simplify and share SAN storage, today announced that software RAID 1 And RAID 5 have been integrated into LaScala, Sanbolic's clustered volume manager. These features provide, in a cost effective software product, the capability typically found in storage controllers of enterprise storage arrays.
LaScala is an advanced clustered volume manager that is designed for shared storage environments where multiple servers can access a common volume concurrently in conjunction with Sanbolic's Melio clustered file system. It also supports native Windows file systems for non-shared environments. LaScala's existing RAID 0 support allows customers to aggregate multiple disks or SAN storage partitions into a large storage pool which can be centrally configured into logical drives that are assigned using standard Windows security ACLs. The new features add mirroring and distributed parity, giving customers new options to add RAID protection to cost effective JBOD storage or to aggregate the internal drives of servers that are running a software iSCSI target. Future releases will include remote and multi-way mirroring.
"Microsoft continues to introduce new storage solutions, such as the Microsoft iSCSI Target for Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 and for Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003. Sanbolic has worked closely with Microsoft to extend SAN storage solutions for the Windows Server platform," said Claude Lorenson, group product manager for storage at Microsoft. "Sanbolic's LaScala Volume Manager with RAID 1 and RAID 5 will give customers new capabilities such as the ability to aggregate internal storage of multiple Windows Storage Server 2003 R2-based servers as a single RAID-protected storage pool, providing an easily integrated clustered storage solution based on the Windows Storage Server platform."
Sanbolic software currently supports Microsoft Windows Server 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2. Sanbolic distributes its product solutions worldwide through a network of distributors, OEMs, VARs and system integrators.
The new version of LaScala incorporating RAID 1 and RAID 5 support is expected to be available in late Q2 2007. Sanbolic will be exhibiting in the Microsoft Pavilion at Storage Networking World in San Diego April 16-19.
