Intel Selects Winbond WPCD376I SuperI/O With Integrated CIR Controller for Its New Media Series Desktop Boards

BEIJING, China, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Winbond Electronics Corporation announced today that its WPCD376I, a SuperI/O device with integrated consumer infrared for Vista Media Center PCs, has been selected by Intel for its new Media Series Desktop Boards.
The WPCD376I is the first fully featured SuperI/O with a Consumer IR controller to be fully compliant with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Vista(TM) Media Center Edition (MCE). The WPCD376I integrated Consumer IR functionality eliminates the need for an external USB-based dongle. The WPCD376I Consumer IR controller will be demonstrated for the first time, on Intel's new media series platform, during the 2007 IDF conference in Beijing.

Winbond's WPCD376I integrated Consumer IR device supports remote-control receiving, learning and emitting (blasting) capabilities. A WPCD376I-based system enables a user with a remote control to navigate through Vista and wake the system from all sleep states, thus turning the PC into a Consumer Electronics (CE) device. The WPCD376I enables a remote control to handle up to four external CE devices such as Set-top Boxes, High-Definition TVs and other Audio/Video appliances. The WPCD376I is designed to enable IR receiver integration into the front panel and IR blaster into the back panel. The WPCD376I supports all IR protocols required for Vista MCE compliance. It is offered with a Microsoft Vista-certified CIR driver.
Optimized for Desktop platforms, the WPCD376I features typical legacy modules such as Floppy Disk Controller, Parallel Port, Serial Port, 16 GPI/Os and a Keyboard & Mouse Controller.
