Moonwalk Named to ‘Byte and Switch’ Top 10 Startups to Watch
Moonwalk Inc., the Australian developer of all-inclusive data protection and management software, was named among the Top 10 Startups to Watch by the storage networking website Byte and Switch in a March 27 article that highlights innovative companies in the areas of storage networking and data management.
Vendors named to the Top 10 list were chosen from criteria including market impact within the past 18 months; solid initial funding; established partnerships, customers and/or contracts; and an interesting take or creative gamble on storage technologies. Moonwalk was selected for inclusion on the basis of its new architecture for managing data that moves unstructured files from one place to another in Windows, Unix, Linux or Netware environments based on simple rules such as “copy,”"move” and “migrate.”
“We are appreciative of the recognition bestowed upon us by Byte and Switch in their naming us among their ‘Top 10 Startups to Watch,’” said Peter Harvey, CEO of Moonwalk. “Best of all, we plan on being a company to watch for some time to come.”
Moonwalk’s stateless architecture requires no additional overhead, is completely transparent to users and applications, and introduces no points of potential failure, thus ensuring maximum possible performance and reliability.
Extremely small-footprint agents, each with its own NFS client, are installed on enterprise servers to execute the policies as scheduled from a centralized management location. These agents are very light weight – for example, one megabyte for NSS, four megabytes for Windows – and are installed quickly and simply throughout the network. The agents can then stream the files directly between locations as instructed without any intervention or staging. The software is so non-disruptive that it takes only about an hour for an average Moonwalk installation to be fully operational.
Byte and Switch is an online publication and web portal that explores the storage networking market. It focuses on addressing the information needs of enterprise and service provider customers by covering storage networking from three unique angles: technology, finance, and people. The magazine covers how storage network technologies work for corporate IT buyers, but also reveals key storage networking investment opportunities, explains how service providers can make money from the technology, and gives credit to the movers and shakers who are making storage networking one of the most dynamic segments of the networking industry.
