NEC Unified Solutions Reduces Cost of VOIP With Automation and Self-Service Software

Posted on: Monday, 4 October 2004, 06:00 CDT

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Internet Telephony Conference & Expo, Booth #902 -- NEC Unified Solutions (NEC), a leader in integrated communications solutions for the enterprise, today announced the NEC MA4000 Web-based software suite for its UNIVERGE(TM) pure-IP voice communications platform. The new software will dramatically reduce the time and money spent moving, adding and changing enterprise user phone information by allowing IT staff to schedule changes to occur automatically after-hours and by adding self-service management in a simple interface.

NEC's MA4000 Management module features LDAP auto-provisioning to directory servers, exchange servers or any LDAP version-3 enabled application, which allows automatic adds, moves and changes and supports secure, encrypted connections. It also provides secure centralized authentication that can be integrated into and with the customer environment, along with flexible and granular authorization.

Every user will also have access to a personalized MA4000 Assistant so they can set display, forwarding and dialing preferences and initiate changes for their personal information.

"TelecomTactics finds that the number of new business telephone systems with Web browser-based software for system management is on the rise from only one fourth of new systems in 2003 to nearly half of all systems introduced in 2004 to date. Installation and maintenance are simplified via NEC's Installation Manager and MA4000 Web-based software shipped standard with every UNIVERGE SV7000 system," said Analyst Sandra Gustavsen of TelecomTactics, Access Intelligence LLC. "Web-based desktop applications for users are also beginning to enter the market. NEC's new MA4000 Assistant makes it easy for individual users to program personal phone settings, including telephone buttons, speed dial and call forwarding."

"Technology should make the user and the IT department more productive, not less," said Tom Burger, CEO, president and director, NEC Unified Solutions. "NEC believes simplifying and automating the basic tasks like changing user information and centralizing authentication can make the biggest difference in getting the job done efficiently."

The NEC MA4000 is now shipping with the company's UNIVERGE(TM) SV7000 IP communications server. Licensing for the product is solely based on the number of extensions supported so the enterprises only buy what they need.
