Fujitsu FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite Solution Helps Cut Costs in Data Centers By Up to 65 Percent
Posted on: Wednesday, 6 October 2004, 06:00 CDT
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Computer Systems today announced the results of a Total Cost of Ownership / Return on Investment (TCO/ROI) analysis for the FlexFrame(TM) for mySAP(TM) Business Suite solution -- a solution developed in close cooperation with SAP and Network Appliance. The independent consulting company BearingPoint was commissioned to perform the analysis. The results confirm that the FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution can have a significant impact on the ROI of an SAP infrastructure, leading to cost savings of up to 65 percent.
The FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution replaces yesterday's complex environment of multiple servers dedicated to running specific SAP services with a modular concept that incorporates the latest business-critical computing technologies like Fujitsu PRIMERGY(R) blade servers and networked storage from NetApp. This modular approach simplifies the IT infrastructure and offers on-demand provisioning and other autonomic features to significantly reduce TCO.
The BearingPoint study was comprised of two parts: The consulting company first conducted customer interviews; then it evaluated their data center environments to lend credence to its findings.
According to the study, the use of the FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution can lead to process-related cost savings of up to 65 percent in the following areas of operation within an SAP environment:
-- SAP Systems and Services
-- Operating System
-- Hardware (including High Availability Architectures)
-- Disk Storage
BearingPoint based its research on a comparison of traditional SAP environments to the current FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution. The customer interviews showed an average reduction in TCO of more than 60 percent and an ROI of 168 percent within a period of three years. The break even point was reached by some customers after just 1.6 years. Even with conservative estimates, customers yielded cost savings of over 40 percent and an ROI of 122 percent.
"NetApp, Fujitsu and SAP share a common vision to develop innovative solutions that can dramatically reduce cost and increase ease-of-use and flexibility," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. "We are pleased to see that our vision has translated into proven savings and ROI for our customers."
The FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution is currently being deployed internationally in more than 50 customer projects, including T-Systems and Hella KG. It is a concrete "virtualization" example of the TRIOLE(TM) strategy for optimizing IT.
This week, Fujitsu and Network Appliance will be showcasing the FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite solution at SAP TechED'04 in San Diego, CA in Booth #20. About TRIOLE
PRIMERGY servers are a key product line in the Fujitsu TRIOLE(TM) strategy for optimized IT. Aiming to meet the needs for open-standard IT infrastructure systems and improved business continuity and efficiency, the TRIOLE strategy is designed to help corporations and public institutions expand the scope of their activities, quickly set up new operations, achieve system stability and reduce total cost of ownership.
The TRIOLE strategy is based on real life customer experiences and three core technological areas in which Fujitsu has leading-edge expertise: integration, virtualization and automation. Virtualization separates applications and data from dedicated systems; automation refers to the autonomic self-healing and adaptation of IT infrastructure to meet changing business needs; and integration is the fast, low cost and low risk implementation of those technologies across the full IT infrastructure spectrum, including server, storage, network and middleware elements. Fujitsu has applied these core concepts to develop pre-verified solution templates that will serve as functional building blocks to speed the construction of highly reliable open-system installations.
