Attention: Computer and Electronic Manufacturers, Software and Application Providers, Music and Gaming Distributors and Networking Companies.
Wireless connectivity and the explosion of digital photo and music content on home PCs are making the dream of home networking come true. But as the technology barriers fall and PC and consumer electronics firms rush to market will they create a competitive nightmare?
The Home Networks spotlight report presents the latest statistics and analysis addressing the promise of networking media in the home. It's an exciting picture, but one that -- until now -- has been far from clear.
The opportunities that are being created by this dynamic but amorphous marketplace demand a keen understanding of consumer preferences -- and the shifting dynamics and strategies of a wide array of industry competitors.
As an example of the companies now focusing on the market, last year an impressive roster of PC companies (including HP, Gateway, Intel and Microsoft) and consumer electronics companies (including Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips and Thomson) formed the Digital Home Working Group. The Group's goal is to foster convergence between PC and consumer electronics industries by designing guidelines based on open standards.
The market is attracting interest from many industries, including:
- Content Providers
- Audio and Video Specialists
- Broadcasters and Cable
- Telecoms and Wireless
- Cameras and Recorders
- Networkers
- Startups
Key Projections from the Home Networks Spotlight Report:
Home networks are enabled by multiple PCs but will be fuelled by
broadband.
As the PC plays a greater role in delivering TV content, it will create a
new platform.
Wi-Fi will lead the way toward unifying disparate home networks.
Music sharing will be the strongest driver of entertainment networks.
PC-related companies will win the crowded market for home networking
devices.
And much more...
Here is an example of the type of statistics and analysis that fill the
report:
Home Networks Forecasts
Home networks growth has traditionally been tied to households with multiple PCs and broadband. No projections for multiple-PC households exist as yet, but broadband promises to prove a strong driver for home networking into 2005. This report forecasts that there will be over 150 million broadband households globally by 2005, with the largest number residing in the Asia- Pacific region. However, both North America and Western Europe are expected to have over 40 million broadband households by that time.
The Internet Home Alliance, in a study developed by Oregon-based consultancy Zanthus, concluded that after several years of 25% growth, home networking is expected to see even stronger growth (28%) from July 2003 to July 2004, when it will be in 16% of US households.
